In July 2018, the U.S. Department of Justice made an announcement regarding the 3M™ Dual-Ended Combat Arms™ Earplugs (CAEv2). 3M Company, the exclusive maker of the CAEv2, had agreed to pay $9.1 million in claims to military personnel who have experienced hearing loss or hearing damage. These defective earplugs are alleged to have not provided adequate protection for personnel in certain branches of the military, exposing soldiers to the danger of hearing loss.
