On January 11, 2016, Gynnya McMillen, a 16-year old female inmate at the Lincoln Village Regional Juvenile Detention Center, was found unresponsive. There are no answers available regarding her cause of death. Very little information is being provided as an investigation into details surrounding her death remains ongoing.

Gynnya was in custody in the facility for less than 24 hours when she was found deceased, according to a former employee of the detention center.

The coroner of Hardin County, William Lee, Jr., claimed that there is no clear physical evidence of her cause of death at the time Gynnya was found.

There are no other reported juvenile deaths while incarcerated at this facility since 1999, according to sources speaking for the facility. The location in which Gynnya McMillen was found has not been released. The family has created a Facebook page to raise awareness, gain support and raise funds for awareness of correctional system negligence following this tragic, and preventable loss. A GoFundMe page is available to help raise funds to bring Gynnya’s case to justice, but to bring more attention to how inmates are treated around the world.

An anonymous former employee told New York Daily News that cameras are not in every holding cell. The former employee also said that the juveniles are supposed to be checked on every 15 minutes and that juveniles are typically not held in those cells overnight.
